Distant Stitch Diploma, Module 5, Chapter 7 - Trapped and Pocket Features

I chose my coral reef theme for inspiration in this chapter.

Embroidered clingfilm first appeared when I was studying for the C&G Certificate. I have folded the clingfilm and stitched the ends to create a clam shape. The contents are pieces of glass, smoothed by the sea and washed up on the beach. I haven't varnished the glass as I think the dullness is more in keeping with the cloudiness of the clingfilm.

A mermaid's purse, made from acetate and painted with alcohol ink. It contains a piece of coral I found on the beach. The edges are sealed with a soldering iron.

A shell wrapped in a cone-shaped, acetate envelope, sealed with a soldering iron.

Jumbo bubble wrap, split in half to reveal the air pockets.  I have placed found objects in the pockets and have placed a sheet of acetate over the top. I cut out 2 circles as some shells protruded above the bubble wrap surface.  The acetate is secured in place by 5 beads, stitched through all layers.
