I went back to Module 1 and chose this picture of button coral. I have tried to stay with these colours throughout the course.

This first print was made on cotton scrim, ironing it to freezer paper and putting it through an inkjet printer. The criss-cross of the background is the table covering and nothing to do with the print! The colours are subtle. I expected them to be more vibrant as I was using new ink cartridges. |

This is the freezer paper, and an imprint is clear, with the cotton scrim acting as a mask.

This is another print using freezer paper. The fabric is white polyester with a 'dotty' pattern in the fabric. Again the colours are quite muted, but the design is clearer.

I used one of my images from the last chapter here. I ironed Bondaweb onto faux silk and then ironed the photocopy onto the Bondaweb. I sponged the back of the fabric with water and gently rubbed the paper away. Because the faux silk has a slightly shiny surface the resulting print has a sheen to it.

95 |
I started experimenting with layers.
 |
96 |
I cut out my slip shape. Here this is displayed against black card.
 |
97 |
Another experiment, this time with a piece of polyester net curtain.
 |
98 |
I have layered the printed scrim on top of the last image.
 |
99 |
I stitched around the negative shapes to start securing the layers.
 |

I cut more shapes cut of the polyester print and layered them over the piece. This photo was taken pinned against the window so that the daylight could help to show the different layers.

I couched ribbon round the outlines of some of the shapes and backed the piece onto black card. I think it benefitted from the light streaming through.
 |
103 |
I took my button coral image and used Photoshop Elements to distort the design (Palette Knife). I love this pattern.
 |
104 |
I traced a design onto tracing paper. The fish shape is in keeping with my coral reef theme.
 |
105 |
I experimented with adding fabric to alcohol ink on Yupo paper. Here I have covered the paper with net when the ink was still wet. The ink acted as a glue and the net has stuck fast, once dry. This adds a layer of texture to the paper. I'll try experimenting with other light, transparent fabrics in the future.
 |
106 |
This is an interesting print I took by removing the net during the drying process. The print is on computer paper.
 |
107 |
I used layers of zigzag stitch and 3 different coloured threads. The largest shapes at the bottom of the picture have a zigzag width of 3, in the middle the shapes are slightly smaller with a zigzag width of 2 and at the top the shapes are smaller still with a zigzag width of 1. I didn't;t want to add too much stitch so that the background pattern didn't become obscured.
 |
108 |
To add a little more focus I have added solid fish shapes cut from the Yupo paper. The net gives the effect of scales. I think the colours all work well together and there is an element of rapid movement as the fish 'swim' towards the surface.

It works quite well upside down! I think I prefer 108 though.
