C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 3 - Tonal Effects in Machine Stitchery
I have a Janome sewing machine that has many in-built stitches. This is the first time I have altered the stitch length and width on this type of stitch. I am used to doing it with free-machine stitching. I started by making myself a zigzag guide to that I could work out what a built-in stitch was likely to do. A very interesting exercise with surprising results. I made notes on each sample (width and length of stitch) so that I can reproduce them again. Using the fringe foot produced some very feathery stitching but it hasn't shown up very well in the scanned image (page 20). All the stitching was done with the feed-dogs up. However it would have been much easier to have done the cable stitch on page 21 as free machine embroidery. The turkey feather (page 23) is perhaps too literal, but it was great fun working out which stitches matched each section of the feather.
