C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 4 - Drawing Patterns from Animal Markings

Four very different patterns to draw, all with great potential to produce some interesting designs (I hope!)

C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 3 - Tonal Effects in Machine Stitchery

I have a Janome sewing machine that has many in-built stitches. This is the first time I have altered the stitch length and width on this type of stitch. I am used to doing it with free-machine stitching. I started by making myself a zigzag guide to that I could work out what a built-in stitch was likely to do. A very interesting exercise with surprising results. I made notes on each sample (width and length of stitch) so that I can reproduce them again. Using the fringe foot produced some very feathery stitching but it hasn't shown up very well in the scanned image (page 20). All the stitching was done with the feed-dogs up. However it would have been much easier to have done the cable stitch on page 21 as free machine embroidery. The turkey feather (page 23) is perhaps too literal, but it was great fun working out which stitches matched each section of the feather.

C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 2- Tonal Column in Stitching

I have not done a great deal of canvas work and have never stitched any blackwork before. I found the experience very enjoyable and I can understand how people get addicted to this sort of work. In the finished blackwork sample, I originally thought that Column III wouldn't be very effective as it is so simple, but I think, in the end, it worked out as the best one.

C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 1 - The Study of Tone

To create tints and shades I have worked on black and white paper, using paint, ink and chalk, to make a variety of differing tones.

C&G Certificate Module 2, Introduction - Abstracting a Design from Animal Markings

It took me a while to decide which animals to choose for this module, as I wanted them to all have very different markings. I have chosen four animals but the zebra is my favourite.
