And Finally!

I wasn't completely satisfied with my assessment embroidery at the end of Module 6 of the Certificate so I decided to revisit the project.

I used all the same techniques that I had used before but this time I dabbed the paint on with a sponge, rather than using a paintbrush. I also used softer tones.

I used an automatic stitch that could be elongated to create the krill, free machine stitching, starting with length 1 in the centre  to length 5 at the outer edge. I replaced the painted pelmet vilene chain links with cotton scrim, which I crumpled and stitched in circles.

The resulting piece was slightly transparent. I wanted the centre to be darker than the outer edge, so I cut a large circle of black felt to back the centre of the circle and mounted it on white felt, so that the outer edges stayed lighter. It measures 68 cm x 68 cm.

Stage 1
I felt that the piece needed something else to give it a little more definition and experimented with strips of  painted pelmet vilene and stitched clingfilm glued to a pelmet vilene lattice (cut with a soldering iron) but it didn't bring the design together.

Stage 2
I had a little hessian scrim left over from my assessment piece so  I added it in circles round the design, decreasing the number of strands towards the edge. Satisfied at last!
