C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 8 - Not what it seams!

I have enjoyed working with my embroidered strips. I have tried to produce seams and cords that will enhance my 3D piece, as it will definitely have both!

I liked the paper and fabric designs very much on page 56. So much so that I printed them onto cotton, using an inkjet printer to make new fabrics.

C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 7 - Traditional Piecing Methods

I had done very little patchwork before this chapter so it was a steep learning curve! Before getting to grips with log cabins I started to make some embroidered samples, to be cut into strips.

C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 6 - Patterning fabrics using old water dyes and fabric paints

This chapter was great fun! I haven't done any tie-dyeing since I was at school. I researched on the internet to find a variety of ways of folding fabrics to get interesting results. It's certainly something I will do again, hopefully with a few more colours next time! The first batch I produced were not very dark so I increased the concentration of dye and got better results. I have been using my paler fabric in the following chapters and am saving my better ones for my 3D piece.

I made up some boards to group my photos, drawings, patterned papers and fabrics together, to get a feeling of the essence of the design.

C&G Certificate Module 2, Chapter 5 - Patterned Papers

I started this section by looking at the animal patterns in an abstract way and by squinting at them to see what would evolve.  I used a variety of 'tools' to make my marks using black ink, bleach and black acrylic paint.
