C&G Certificate Module 1, Chapter 8 - Complex Samples

I generally don't mix hand stitching and machine stitching together so this was quite a challenge, nor have I ever padded anything. Some of the padding worked really well but in sample 8 it is barely noticeable (but it is there). The padding showed up much better if it was encased by machine stitching rather than hand stitching.

C&G Certificate Module 1, Chapter 7 - Translating the Layered Designs into Embroidery

Stitching on back of fabric
Drawing on back of fabric

I have not done appliqué working from the back of the fabric before so it was very interesting and filled me with ideas! I added the method into the sketch book to remind me how I did the samples.

C&G Certificate Module 1, Chapter 6 - Using Bonding in Appliqué

I have used transfer adhesive (Bondaweb and Wonder-Under) many times but I have not used the powder before. The powder was more difficult to use, especially when placing shapes. It was good as extra adhesive when used in conjunction with Bondaweb.

C&G Certificate Module 1, Chapter 5 - Fabric Selection and Decoration

I mixed some Liquitex medium in with the acrylic paints. I added equal amounts to both the green and the red colours. The green paint became quite runny and didn't cover the stamp as well as the red. I've printed on a variety of natural and man-made fabrics. I particularly like the red banner on page 39.

C&G Certificate Module 1, Chapter 4 - Cut and Fold Design Shapes

I liked the shape that had evolved on page 18, so I based my new designs on this. By folding it, more shapes appeared. Working in paper really helped me as I worked through chapters 3, 4  and 5. I hadn't imagined that so many variations would develop.
